If you could list few best Under-21 players in the world currently, I am very sure that Isco, the Spanish midfielder would be up there in the list. Real Madrid have signed this young star from Malaga for 30 million Euros on a six-year contract after his heroics in the U-21 championships. It is no surprise that Isco finds himself in one of the biggest clubs in the world after his performances on the pitch in the past two seasons for Malaga. The Spanish giants had to battle with Manchester City to sign this young talent and now they have a future star in the making.

Isco’s move to real Madrid comes after his spectacular season with Malaga where he managed to score 15 goals and 5 assists and was one of the main reasons behind his team’s progression to the quarterfinals of the Champions league. With Santi Carzola’s sale to Arsenal, the burden of carrying the midfield of the team fell on this young man’s shoulders and he did not disappoint the faith shown on him by his coach Manuel Pellegrini. After Carzola’s move, he was shifted to a more central role in the mid field which he seemed to enjoy and made the position his own last season. In his last season with Malaga, the 21 year old mid fielder had an astonishing 87 % successful pass completion rate

Now where does Isco find himself in the Real Madrid line up? With stars like Xabi Alonso, Khedira, Modric, Kaka, Di Maria, Ozil- Can this young Spaniard have a chance to enter the starting line up? Certainly yes. With Xabi Alonso Injured and Modric always preferring a deep playmaker role, Isco will be a favourite to start alongside Mesut Ozil in the final third of the pitch as an attacking mid fielder. Hence he will be there as a creative spark- starting the counter attacks, providing the killer pass, through ball to the strikers for which he is known for.

There can be very little doubt whether he can perform in the biggest stage- Champions league. Anyone who noticed his performance for Malaga against Zenit would be very sure that this youngster’s talent, composure on the ball and his technique cannot be questioned. Carlo Ancelotti might just use the 4-2-3-1 formation with Ronaldo, Ozil and Isco as three men supporting the striker upfront. However there are few aspects of the game that he needs to work on- Physicality and finishing. Isco like other Spanish midfielders tends to go down easily and this can really affect his play when he is up against top English teams and German teams in the Champions league where the defenders always get close with their opponents and have a physical approach to their game.

Thus Isco will be an important addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad and will surely make an impact in his first season with the club. At just 21 years of age, with the opportunity to work with one of the best coaches in the world in one of the biggest clubs with best facilities, Isco without a doubt will be a star in the future for Real Madrid and Spain.
