LUCKNOW, August 19: Bangalore team Banga Beats made a light work of Lucknow’s Awadhe Warriors with a 4-1 victory in the Indian Badminton League at the Babu Banarasi Das UP Badminton Academy here on Sunday evening.
At a packed stadium, Banga Beats’ Spaniard Carolina Marin ousted Warriors’ icon player P. V Sindhu 21-16, 21-13 in straight games.
In the men’s singles P. Kashyap overcame a stiff challenge from Srikanth to win 20-21, 21-11, 11-9.
An elated Kashyap, “I injured my ankle in the second set but the crowd cheer pulled me along. There was no way I could have led down a crowd so supportive.
“Lucknow has always been very dear to my heart because I won my careers first tournament here during the Syed Modi Badminton Tournament.
“Srikanth gave his 100 percent but was not at all under pressure for playing against a senior. Let this be the beginning off my winning streak in the league,” he added.
After defeating the World Badminton Championships bronze medallist Sindhu, Carolina claimed, “I had heard about the fiery game moves of Sindhu post her win at the recently concluded World Championship.
“I had to make an all together different game plan to beat her. I was initially nervous but gained confidence by the end of first set.”
